Strategy Development & Deployment
Vision without Action is a daydream. Action without Vision is a nightmare (Japanese proverb).
VISION
The larger the organization, the harder it is to steer – picture a tanker out at sea. The key is clear communication of strategy – infallible steering – down through every level of the organization.
We help the leaders of large organizations to articulate winning choices with simplicity. We provide the tools to ensure those choices cascade down to every desk.
All our work is influenced by the concept of ‘Action-centered’ organisational leadership. Specifically, product / service packages are always designed:
- To help the client in ‘hard’ execution (vs ‘Strategic thinking’ alone)
- To balance the 3 key variants in any organisational challenge:
- EMPLOYEES, TEAMS, STRATEGY
We have a wealth of methods and tools to bring to the table. But we never lose sight of the fact that every client is different. Our approach is always tailored to the client’s needs, values and culture.
ACTION
Our approach, based on our own Kinetic Model, is as follows:
- A Strategic Analysis, identifying key barriers to bringing your strategy to life
- A Strategic Action plan, connecting the Global strategy to day-to-day multi-functional actions throughout the organisation
- A Recommendation for Deployment (including templates) ensuring full engagement
We carry out our STRATEGIC ANALYSIS Using the “Organisation Performance model” working against 5 key variables:
- Business situation: the ‘needs’ which the organisation must satisfy and the ‘pressures’ which must be managed.
- Business results: the ‘output’ that is currently delivered by the system, intentionally or not.
- ‘How we really operate’: everything that goes on in the organisation; both a cause and an effect of individuals interacting with each other
- Design elements: those factors which determine culture, including Structure; Rewards; Decision-Making; People; Tasks; and Information
- Operating strategy: the organisation’s real mission and goals, as well as the inherited values, underlying assumptions and operating principles
- The specific output: a document, diagnosing and summarising the current business and organisational situation.
We design a STRATEGIC ACTION PLAN that promotes individual leadership, speed of decision-making and initiative, based on a very clear understanding of:
- The ‘1-up’ Vision and Strategy
- The organisation’s ‘reason to be’, objective and targets
- Clear strategic choices and tactics to achieve that objective
The effectiveness of this approach is that each individual leader understands his or her own deliverables and the context of those deliverables. The results that they are to achieve and the reason why they need to be achieved are clearly mandated. Their role allows decision-making, within their delegated freedom of action and with their team, on how best to achieve those deliverables. Leaders at each level are empowered, and hence engaged, to deliver success.
We deliver a RECOMMENDATION FOR DEPLOYMENT, detailing methods for cascading the Strategic Action Plan down through every level of the organization. As specific outputs, for example we provide recommended deployment events, communication templates, strategic tracking tools. Overall, we ensure that every employee:
- Is inspired and feels that she / he is part of a winning successful team
- Understands the Strategic choices and feels that they are the right ones to accelerate growth together
- Understands (and commits to) his / her unique contribution to achieving the vision, using the Mission Execution format (see our Kinetic Model hyperlink to how we work)
The outcome: your VISION is clear and is put into ACTION
